Therapy for Children

Children experience big feelings, growing brains, and ever-changing environments, and sometimes they need a safe space to help make sense of it all. We offer gentle, neuro-affirming therapy for children, led by their interests and their own ways of communicating, supporting emotional wellbeing, communication, and connection. Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, emotional regulation, friendships, or something else, we're here to support them and you, with care and curiosity.

What We Support Children With

What Child Therapy Looks Like With Us

Therapy with children is gentle, flexible, and centred on connection. Our approach is affirming, interest-led, and PDA-informed, grounded in the belief that every child deserves to feel safe, understood, and celebrated for who they are. We draw on brain-based, developmentally informed practices to support emotional awareness, confidence, and a stronger sense of self.

Rather than trying to “fix” anything, we work alongside children to explore how their brain works, build skills in ways that make sense to them, and create space for expression and growth. Sessions are tailored to each child’s needs, whether that means slowing things down, using visual supports, gamifying tasks, or weaving in the things they love, from dinosaurs to dance moves.

We primarily offer therapy via Telehealth, in our virtual therapy playroom. Children join from their own home, in their own room if they like, and play, draw, build, and talk in a calm, cosy space made for therapy online. They stay in control of how they take part, with options like muting, sound, subtitles, chat, headphones, moving around, or stepping off camera. In-person therapy is available in Naarm (Melbourne), in Scoresby. In Meanjin (Brisbane), therapy is offered via Telehealth, with in-person sessions considered on a case-by-case basis where clinically appropriate.

We work at your child’s pace, building trust and shaping the process together because when therapy feels safe and collaborative, that’s when meaningful change can begin.

Support for Parents & the Parent–Child Relationship

Therapy with children often includes supporting parents too, especially when working with younger children. Parent involvement might include brief check-ins after sessions, practical ideas for home, or occasional parent-only sessions focused on building understanding and connection with your child. For very young children, or children who aren't yet able to engage directly, parent-only sessions may be the main way we support them.

We also offer dedicated parenting support sessions for those who want to explore their own experience of parenting or caregiving, without their child present. These sessions are grounded in attachment theory and the Circle of Security framework, with a focus on neurodivergent families, and can help you:

  • Strengthen your relationship with your child;

  • Understand their behaviour through a developmental lens;

  • Feel more confident, grounded, and supported in your parenting role.

Sometimes we incorporate this kind of attachment-based work directly into the therapy process if we feel it would benefit the parent-child dynamic. Other times, it’s a space just for you: a place to feel less alone, and more empowered.
